Memii: A Heritage Detector

Project Period: 2025. 7. 17. – 2026. 4. 20. Status: Concept • MVP Specification Role: Concept Lead & Product Designer

Executive Summary

Memii (맀미) is a location-aware mobile application that gently reveals hidden cultural and natural heritage around you, turning daily walks into moments of discovery.

By using real-time GPS and open heritage data from the Korean Heritage Service, Memii notifies users when they are near hidden or significant heritage sites, quietly inviting them to pause, explore, and connect. The app is envisioned to make memory audible, heritage visible, and cultural meaning personal.

Problem & Solution

The Challenge

Cultural heritage is often perceived as static, distant, or confined to museums. Millions of people walk past historical landmarks, protected trees, and cultural monuments every day without ever knowing their stories.

The Memii Approach

Contextual, lightweight, and respectful. Rather than forcing comprehensive tours, Memii delivers ambient, soft notifications and minimalist cards that fit naturally into everyday mobility.

Core Features

πŸ“ Location-Based Alerts

Automated push alerts within configurable geofence radii (100m to 1km), with vibration-only silent mode for respectful public use.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Interactive Heritage Map

Real-time map rendering nearby historical, archaeological, architectural, and natural heritage sites with curated summaries.

πŸ”– Personal Collections

Bookmark discovered heritage sites, track personal walking footprints, and export memories without mandatory sign-up hurdles.

Primary User Persona

πŸ‘£ Hansu (ν•œμˆ˜), 25–45, The Accidental Explorer

"I want to feel like this street I've walked a hundred times still has something to teach me."

  • Habits: Casual urban walks, commuting by foot, appreciates bite-sized contextual knowledge.
  • Frustrations: Finds official heritage portals cumbersome or overly academic.
  • Ideal Experience: Receives a soft ping while walking, taps it, and briefly learns something meaningful.
